Renaissance Stories

Hi 8-1 and 8-2 families,

My apologies for not getting this info up onto the blog sooner. I wanted to update parents on our Renaissance narrative story task as we this week we have started the beginning/rising action of these stories.

The task sheet for this project can be found here. The purpose of this story is to demonstrate students' understanding of the worldview of significant people at the time of the Renaissance and the conflicts that resulted throughout this time due to the clashing of these different worldviews. Because we have limited information on some of these interesting people, the other characters, arguments, or struggle that you want to use in your story might need to be invented by you in order to make your story make sense and showcase your person's beliefs.

Today students shared their beginnings and rising action with a peer and got feedback on whether it effectively did these jobs:
- introduce setting (year and country/city state that you are choosing)
- person's identity (name, age and anything else you know/presume about them as a person)
- some small action to keep the story moving (even a little) during the beginning of the story
- setting your main character up to be in the right place for the argument/struggle/decision or conflict that is going to make up the beginning of your story.

Using the plot diagram that we created in class while we were researching might be helpful in trying to decide where you want your character to be, and who you want them to run into potentially, during the middle of your story.

As we complete the rough draft, students will help create the criteria for success, have the opportunity to give and receive feedback and then time to edit their story before publishing and submitting a final product. We look forward to sharing this process with you and getting parent insight along the way so please stay tuned for how you can help this coming weekend.
