Discovering our own Worldview

8-1 and 8-2 parents,

Part of our work in Grade 8 Humanities is developing a sense of our own worldviews. Students were challenged today to think about "where they stand" on the following 7 categories:

-Responsibility to Others (are we responsible for caring for others in society?)
-Sources of Ethical Wisdom (where do we go for lessons on how to be, or what is right or wrong?)
-Role of Individual and State (how much control should government have? how many rights should individuals have?)
-Equality with Others (are there certain groups that should be valued over others? are all people equal?)
-The Good Life (what do you hope for in your life? what would you work towards?)
-Relationship to Nature (how much do you care about the environment, and environmental issues?)
-Human Nature (are people innately good, or innately bad? how would they behave without the law?)

We will continue trying to solidify our stance on these things this week as we are beginning work with an artist in residence next week that will be a way of representing these worldviews.

If you can chat at home and help your child think about their own values and beliefs, and what has influenced these, that would be great.  Thank you!
