Humanities Update

Hi 8-1 and 8-2 families!

Just wanted to send out an update about our work in Humanities and some upcoming dates.

We have begun exploring the stories of the Aztec civilization and the Spanish Conquest led by Hernan Cortes. Students have been working on retelling Aztec myths using a variety of media and are now creating posters for an Aztec god or goddess of their choosing. We have been discussing the Aztec pre-contact worldview and developing our understanding of what these people believed, valued and created during the time of the Aztec Empire.

This work has led us into an ongoing conversation about truth, and next week we will be looking at Novelist Chimamanda Adichie's Ted talk: The Danger of a Single Story.

UPCOMING DATES:

Feb. 14/15: Teachers' Convention (no classes)
Feb. 18: Family Day (no classes)
Mar. 1: Professional Development Day (no classes)
Mar. 20/21: Student Led Conferences
Mar. 22: Professional Development Day (no classes)
Mar. 25-29: Spring Break

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Ms. Liddell
